Global challenges - local solutions

We are pleased to share our new English-language online publication presenting inspiring good practices of citizen engagement from the Carpathian region.

The brochure brings together 15 initiatives from five countries, showcasing three good practices from each country implemented by civil society organizations. These projects demonstrate how local communities and NGOs can successfully mobilize citizens, strengthen participation in public life, and create innovative solutions to local challenges.

The initiatives featured in the publication highlight a wide range of community-driven actions, including:

  • encouraging youth participation in public life,
  • creating new community spaces and institutions,
  • strengthening local culture and good neighbourly relations,
  • mobilizing communities for common causes, and
  • supporting vulnerable groups such as migrants and internally displaced people.

Civil society organizations are often at the forefront of social innovation. Being deeply rooted in their communities, they are able to respond quickly to emerging challenges, mobilize local actors, and develop solutions that can later inspire broader policies and practices. The projects presented in this collection illustrate the power of local changemakers and community collaboration.

This publication was created within the framework of the Carpathian Civil Society Platform, which aims to connect grassroots organizations across the Carpathian region, strengthen cooperation, and create opportunities for learning from each other’s experiences.

The brochure is available in English, Hungarian, Polish, Slovak, Ukrainian, Romanian.

We hope the examples presented in this collection will inspire other civil society organizations and community leaders to adapt these ideas and further strengthen citizen participation in their own communities.
