Our inter-regional meeting entitled "Challenging Times: The Role of Civil Society" was successfully held in Eger, Hungary, at the Hotel Szent István, from February 25 to 27, 2026. During the three-day event, civil society organizations and local governments from the Carpathian region—from Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine—shared their experiences and jointly sought answers to how our communities can become more resilient in the face of global challenges.
One of the highlights of the program was an international panel discussion entitled " When local governments and civil society collaborate “- in which participants discussed best practices and future opportunities for civil-municipal cooperation. The results of the Central Mountains project were also presented, opening up new perspectives for regional cooperation.
The presence of Ukrainian civil society organizations was particularly significant: their reports highlighted the important work they are doing to support the most vulnerable and fragile communities, despite the war.
The meeting not only provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, but also helped to lay the foundations for concrete cross-border cooperation. We are confident that the relationships established will contribute to the long-term well-being of the Carpathian region.
We would like to thank all participants and partners for their active involvement.
The presentations from the meeting are available here.
