The third kick-off meetings of the "Strengthening and activating small communities of Northeast Hungary" (EFOP-1.3.5-16-2016-00915) were successfully organized in June 2019. The first and second years of the project were successfully closed in April 2019 and now we have started the new and at the same time last implementation year with cooperation with another 17 CSOs to strengthen the cohesion of their small rural communities.

Members, associates and volunteers of 17 non-governmental organizations and institutions from Nógrád, Borsdo-Abaúj-Zemplén and Heves counties participated at the meetings, and trainings where they could get to know each other, and discuss the common work planned for a yearlong in the project.

The project is aimed at mobilizing and developing the communities of (mainly) disadvantaged (small) settlements or districts of bigger towns by voluntary activities, and promoting the active cooperation of all community members. During the 3-year-long project we will actively work with at least 15-20 communities a year, whom we provide trainings, and professional, financial (small grants) and technical assistance how to design and implement local development projects affecting their living conditions.

Up till now approximately 6000 people participated at the events organized in the frame of the project, many community events, festivals, conferences, gatherings, development programs for children were organized by the participating local community groups, such as a community house renovation action in Bükkszentmárton, trash-collecting program in Eger, Roma dance lessons in Hevesaranyos. Local development initiatives focus on most pressing community needs and challenges and organized with active involvement of volunteers, local inhabitants from all age group, ethnicity, and gender.
