Our Foundation started its activity - as a member of the Carpathian Foundation Network - in the Carpathian Euroregion 20 years ago. On this occasion we organized an international conference entitled ’The role of civil society…’. The past, present and future of the Carpathian Euroregion and the Carpathian Foundation were discussed in various panels; country directors of the Carpathian Foundations, representatives of donor organizations, development and grassroots organizations expressed their opinion regarding the main challenges of the Central and Eastern European civil society over the past 20 years.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Carpathian Foundation discussions about the past, current and future challenges of the Central and Eastern European (CEE) civil society will be generated with the participation of our main stakeholders (key players in cross-border-cooperation, donor/(re-)granting organizations, development organizations from the countryside and grassroots) from Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia in order to change their ideas and share their experiences.
Our office will be closed from 24th of December till 3rd of January. In the spirit of the Holiday Season we would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

In 2014 the press was loud about the conflict between the Hungarian Government and the EEA/Norwegian NGO Fund. The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration upon the official request of the Hungarian Governmental Audit Office suspended the tax numbers of the Operator Foundations (Ökotárs, Autonómia, DemNet and Carpathian Foundations) of the EEA/Norwegian NGO Fund; at first the tax number of the Carpathian Foundation in September, 2014. Since then, the government’s actions against the ‘Norwegian civic organizations’ were unsuccessful. Currently there is silence – or calm before the storm….. Here comes a “brief and pithy” summary about this case.
It is exactly one year on September 8, since the police has illegally raided the offices of Ökotárs, its partners and the homes of its staff members thus bringing the dastardly crusade against NGOs to the maximum. Despite the indignifying series of attacks, Ökotárs and its partners have kept and keep on doing their jobs, including the operation of the EEA/Norwegian NGO Fund.
